Laser Engineered Net Shaping

Laser Engineered Net Shaping (LENS tm).  Start with a 3-D CAD file and slice the image into layers to create a tool path.  A laser beam is then generated to create a molten puddle on the substrate and powder is injected into the puddle.  Parts are built line by line and layer by layer using a rastering pattern and fill.  Typical deposit material includes  Ti-6-4; Inconel 617, 625, & 718; 15-5PH, 17-4PH, & 420 SS; and H13 tool steel, with many more currently being tested.  Applications include Aerospace, Department of Defense, and Industrial.
